Electrical FAQ's
We find there are common questions that potential clients have as they are looking for an electrician. The questions and answers below are provided to help you better understand the specialized and licensed skill set of an electrician, as well as our process.
Yes, it is fixable depending on what work has been completed. Repairs to work completed in early stages, before drywall is installed, for example, is less complex and costly. This would require a site visit to prepare a detailed estimate.
Is your cousin a certified journeyman electrician? Can he or she pull permits and navigate the permitting process? Is he or she insured? Does he or she have access to the correct materials? If you answered yes to all these questions, go with your cousin.
All joking aside, obtaining the correct permits is an important part of all projects. Journeymen master electricians are able to apply for permits, which minimizes the hassle for clients. We take on the liability ourselves. Pulling electrical permits for contractors, as opposed to homeowners electrical permits, allows us to pass inspections.
Basements, like the homes that sit on top of them, vary greatly in size and complexity of the electrical design and devices that home owners want to install in them. Home entertainment systems, home networks, security and automation all add complexity to projects. It is essential that clients have a realistic understanding of the work and associated costs. We prepare estimates that reflect the true costs to your particular project.
We'd be pleased to work with you to develop a lighting plan for your backyard. First, we'll start with a realistic timeline. On short notice, it is not possible to develop a comprehensive backyard lighting plan and complete installation. Taking time to develop a plan that reflects how you intend to use the space benefits you in the long term. We want you to be happy with your investment.
In the meantime, there are many simple and temporary lighting solutions that will allow you to host your party this weekend while planning for a future project.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Fairy lights are a great way to add ambiance to an event.
This sounds like a job for a repair person or someone who is handy, and not an electrician, as the lights are commercially made and ready to use. We suggest you search local social media and ad platforms to find help, including community association web pages, and reach out to your networks to get recommendations.
Yes, light fixtures can be costly. We don't procure or source light fixtures for clients. We can, however, provide advice about fixtures as it relates to projects we, you and our company, already have underway through an existing contract.
We also have a relationship with a Calgary-based designer who can work with you to develop a lighting plan within your budget.
While we can often make modifications to the mounting and installation, and electrical cord length within safe limits of manufacturer recommendations, unfortunately if structural or esthetic elements of the fixture are damaged, we do not make repairs.
It's a risk to do that, both safety wise and investment wise, as warranties will be voided. We recommend you return the product and purchase a fixture that is undamaged and requires no modifications.
Requests to install one device are common and we are absolutely able to do this for you. One device - that's an outlet or light switch, for example – typically takes about 3 hours of work. As with all job estimates, we provide a clear, itemized breakdown of costs before proceeding with work. We accept all forms of payment, but, no, we cannot accept beer as payment.
